From Sapphire Engagement Ring to Custom Wedding Bands - A Bespoke Story

For Ethan and John, their journey with us began with a one-of-a-kind sapphire engagement ring and continued with bespoke wedding rings designed to perfectly reflect their love and style. The recently married pair share a few words about their experience (Congratulations again!)
Why Bespoke?
When Ethan was planning John’s engagement ring, he couldn’t find what he wanted anywhere commercially available. Bespoke was the only way to bring his vision to life. Later, when the time came for their wedding rings, the pair knew they wanted something equally personal and unique.
“When I was originally planning John’s engagement ring, I couldn’t find what I wanted commercially available. So I decided to go bespoke to achieve the piece I’d envisioned… When it came to our wedding rings, we were in agreement that we’d likely go down the same route.”
Why Wongs?
Ethan admits he nearly gave up after disappointing appointments elsewhere, but stepping into Wongs changed everything. What had felt like a daunting process quickly turned into an experience filled with excitement, support, and genuine care. It was clear they had found the right place - not just for John’s engagement ring, but also for their wedding bands.
“Everywhere else I’d felt more an inconvenience for asking for such specific requests, but at Wongs, it felt like being hugged. They were genuinely excited to help, and to craft this stunning ring with me. Every moment was a joy.”
The Sentiment
Ethan’s design for John’s engagement ring was filled with meaning. A sapphire in Everton blue flanked by two brilliant cut stones, symbolising balance and strength in threes. The shoulders featured moissanite - chosen for its connection to meteorites and the beauty of having a “shooting star” set into the ring.
For their wedding rings, Ethan opted for a platinum band with a very light green sapphire to echo John’s sapphire engagement ring, while John chose a practical yet striking shaped band to complement his engagement ring and make a single statement.
“For John’s engagement ring, I’d always wanted there to be a balance of threes. The trinity is meant to be about balance and strength, and who wouldn’t want that embodied in a ring?”
The Design Journey
From the start, the design process felt smooth, supportive, and fun. Ethan describes working with the team as if chatting with friends, and John fondly remembers choosing his own sapphire as a highlight of the journey. Together, they found the process of creating both the engagement and wedding rings to be just as magical as the finished pieces themselves.
“Bringing John in to choose his main stone was so special… It was truly magical, and we’d recommend it every time. It really engaged you in the process, and made you feel like you were getting to make the big, personal, choices yourself.”
The Big Reveal
Seeing their rings for the first time was an emotional and unforgettable moment for both Ethan and John. For Ethan, it was the thrill of seeing sketches and ideas transformed into a finished work of art. For John, it was the joy of having his expectations exceeded with a ring that continues to earn compliments.
Ethan: “Honestly, I don’t think I’ve stopped being a walking Wongs advertisement board since I’ve put on the ring. But rightfully so! Everyone keeps commenting on what a beautiful piece of art it is and how ‘me’ it is.”
John: “When I saw the designs, I was excited and thought I knew what to expect. It couldn’t have been delivered any better. It is a stunning piece of jewellery and the design is perfect. It gets so many compliments.”
