Wills Fantasy Inspired Ring with a Family Legacy - A Bespoke Story
Every bespoke piece tells a story, but some are woven with so much meaning, history and imagination that they feel almost magical. Jake knew from the beginning that Wills’ engagement ring needed to be something ornate, symbolic and entirely unique. What began as a love of high fantasy, elaborate designs and shared Instagram inspiration soon transformed into a once in a lifetime piece created with gemstones from a family heirloom over a century old.

"What inspired you to have a bespoke piece created?"
Jake knew a simple ring would never reflect Wills’ personality or their shared love of intricate, fantasy inspired design. They had spent years sending each other beautifully ornate rings online and Jake had a clear idea of the style he wanted to create. It needed to feel special. It needed to feel like them. And it needed to be unlike anything else.
"I knew I wanted to get an engagement ring for Wills that was ornate and totally unique. A simple ring was never going to cut it."
Why Wongs?
Jake visited jewellers across Liverpool before discovering Wongs, and the moment he stepped through the door, everything changed. Zara invited him in straight from the window, welcomed him to sit down and began talking through ideas, styles and cuts with a warmth that instantly stood out. Her enthusiasm and the openness of the conversation made the choice clear.
"Zara was so lovely and easy to talk to. It really stood out from my experiences at other places and was a large part of what led me to go with Wongs."
A Ring Filled with Legacy
The day after Jake told his mum he planned to propose, she sent a message that changed everything. She had remembered a family ring once owned by Jake’s Great Nan, a woman who shared Jake’s birthday but sadly passed away before he was born. The original ring, made in 1897, was yellow gold with a diamond and two sapphires. It held history. It held family. And now, it could become the heart of something new for Wills.
The heirloom was full of little coincidences too. Jake’s Great Nan’s husband had also been called William, a connection that made the redesign feel even more like fate. Jake’s mum gave her full blessing to transform the ring, allowing its stones to continue their story in a new generation.
For Jake, the ring became a beautiful representation of the old wedding saying. Something old and borrowed, with blue sapphires, crafted into something new.
"A little too coincidental and suspiciously like fate if you ask me."
The Design Journey
Designing the ring took a few visits, lots of creative conversation and plenty of imagination. Zara supported Jake every step of the way, offering honest advice on design possibilities, budget and craftsmanship. The CAD mock ups made it possible to fine tune the smallest details, ensuring the final ring captured everything Jake envisioned.
Wongs also made the process easy to keep secret. Jake was able to visit during lunch hours without raising suspicion, which allowed the ring to remain a complete surprise for Wills.
"Discussions about design possibilities and budget were open and honest which made the entire process less stressful."
The Big Reveal
When Jake saw the finished piece, the emotion hit instantly. The ring was ornate, sparkling and more beautiful than he had imagined. The engraver’s work on the band completed the piece, adding the finishing touch to a ring filled with meaning, history and love.
In that moment, he knew with absolute certainty that Wills would adore it.
"I teared up and almost cried. The ring was perfect. Exactly everything I was hoping for it to be."

Would They Recommend Wongs?
"Yes!!!!!! Wongs honestly went above and beyond. Wills is OBSESSED with it. They said yes!!"
