Real Life Love Stories: Molly & Liam

Some love stories take years to unfold, with every chapter feeling like it was meant to lead to one moment. For Molly and Liam, that moment came one magical night in Paris, under the glow of the Eiffel Tower, with a ring that symbolised not just their engagement, but their journey together. Now, one year on from that unforgettable proposal, their story is still radiating with joy, laughter and love.

From Sixth Form Friends to Soulmates

Molly and Liam’s story began in 2014, when Molly joined King David for sixth form. They quickly became close friends, speaking every day and sharing everything from study sessions to inside jokes. Liam even helped Molly land her very first job at a clothing store in Liverpool One, something she still remembers as a perfect reflection of his kindness and generosity.

Over time, friendship turned into something more. They began dating before university took Liam to Leeds to study Biomedical Science, while Molly stayed closer to home, pursuing Primary Education. Even through the distance, they stayed in touch every single day, and soon realised that life was better together. Weekend visits became treasured “mini holidays”, filled with laughter and coffee dates in new cities.

Since those early days, the pair have achieved so much together. Both graduated with first-class degrees, began successful careers, and built a home in the city centre with their kitten, Ink. Their life together is full of conversation, shared ambitions and, as Molly says, “somehow, we never seem to run out of things to say - and I’m sure we never will.”

A Birthday Surprise in Paris

When Liam handed Molly a birthday card with the Eiffel Tower on the front, she thought it was just a beautiful design choice. Little did she know, it was the beginning of something extraordinary. Liam revealed that he’d booked a surprise weekend away to Paris, a place Molly had always dreamed of visiting.

Friends and colleagues immediately began hinting that a proposal might be coming, but Molly brushed it off completely. “I was so sure it wasn’t happening,” she laughed. “So much so that I nearly went with grown-out gel nails!” Thankfully, one of her pupils encouraged her to get them done - something she’s now very grateful for.

Unbeknownst to Molly, Liam had already asked her dad for his blessing and had told his parents and a couple of close friends, none of whom gave anything away. Every detail had been planned perfectly, down to their hotel room, which had a balcony overlooking the Eiffel Tower.

The Proposal

On their second evening in Paris, after a day of sightseeing and exploring, Liam suggested they return to their room to get ready for dinner. He encouraged Molly to take her time, even run a bath with a view of the Tower. While she got ready, he quietly set up his phone to record and even asked two girls across the balcony to film “just in case”.

Molly was running a little late, as she admits, “doing my lipstick and putting my socks on,” but Liam insisted they head out in time to see the Eiffel Tower sparkle. Then, as the lights began to twinkle, he turned to her and began to speak. “As soon as he started talking, I knew what was happening,” she recalled. “I started jumping and crying and shouting ‘oh my God, no no no’ - not my finest choice of words!”.

It was, in every way, a dream come true. Champagne arrived soon after, followed by a beautiful meal, FaceTime calls with family, and the realisation that they were officially engaged in the city of love.

The Ring

Molly’s engagement ring is a masterpiece of design and sentiment. Liam worked with Tracey at Wongs to create a bespoke ‘toi et moi’ (you and me) style ring - chosen not just for its symbolism but also as a subtle nod to Paris, where they got engaged. The ring features two diamonds of different shapes and colours, (both hand selected by Liam of course) - of which includes a stunning yellow diamond, reflecting Molly’s love of unique pieces with personality.

"I honestly couldn’t have chosen better myself. It’s so special that Liam knew exactly what he wanted me to have and was part of the design process."

She still catches herself daydreaming and staring at it, describing it as “the perfect ring for me.”

The Wongs Experience

From the first appointment to the final reveal, Liam and Molly’s experience with Wongs was unforgettable. Liam has recommended the team to countless people ever since, even those who aren’t planning a proposal just yet.

When the couple came in for resizing and to collect their Bridal Box, they were blown away by the thoughtful details. “The Bridal Box was such a sweet touch, and the Polaroid picture from the shop is something we’ll always treasure,” said Molly. “We loved coming into the workshop and seeing where and how my ring was made.”

Molly has already used Wongs’ lifetime cleaning service several times, each visit leaving her more in love with her ring. “I’ve nearly cried each time - it just sparkles even more beautifully after a clean.”

A Year of Engagement

Now, one year since that magical night in Paris, Molly and Liam are still floating on cloud nine. They’ve celebrated their engagement surrounded by family and friends, hosted a beautiful engagement party, and are enjoying the excitement of dreaming about their future wedding. “We’re still talking about all the different possibilities. We want to take our time and make it perfect,” said Molly. For now, they’re focusing on buying a home and enjoying this special chapter before wedding planning begins.

Reflecting on their engagement, Molly says it’s been “the most amazing experience of our lives.” The feeling of knowing you’re going to marry your best friend, she says, is simply unmatched.
