Real Life Love Stories: Lisa & Mei
A Labrador Named Bob, A Hidden Ring, And A Wedding Full Of Welsh Magic
Some love stories unfold in the stillness of everyday life. Others take place on mountaintops, surrounded by lakes, rain showers and muddy pawprints. Lisa and Mei’s story is the perfect mix of both. Their engagement and wedding were built around the things that matter most to them: nature, family and their Labrador, Bob.

"Mei knew I'd want our lovely Labrador Bob at the proposal."
Lisa and Mei met in sixth form, though they attended two different schools. Lisa’s chosen A level subject, Business Studies, was only available at Mei’s school. That meant travelling over from her school each week and joining a new class... which just happened to include Mei. Those early lessons led to long conversations and longer walks home. What began as academic convenience turned into a quiet, steady connection neither of them expected.
"Lisa chose A level Business Studies which coincidentally meant having to go to Mei’s school and join him for that class and it all lead from there."
Years passed, filled with travel, shared adventures and the arrival of Bob, their Labrador and best adventure partner. If a day involved mountains or muddy fields, Bob was always part of it. Which is exactly why when Mei began ring shopping, he knew Lisa’s dream proposal would never be in a fancy restaurant or rooftop abroad. It needed to be somewhere quiet, somewhere real and somewhere Bob could be included.

The Proposal
On a cloudy Sunday, they headed out for one of their favourite walks in Eryri, near Llyn Elsi in Betws y Coed. Lisa threw on her walking clothes without thinking. No makeup. Nails not done. Rain in the forecast. Absolutely perfect.
Mei, usually calm, nervously guarded his rucksack. When he insisted that Lisa not pack anything and refused to let her go near the bag, she thought it was strange, but not suspicious. They hiked through the woodland trail, the sound of rain on the trees, Bob bounding ahead, stopping to make sure they followed.
When they reached the viewpoint overlooking the lake, no one else was around. Just the mountains, the water and the smallest break of sunlight cutting through the clouds. Bob sat at their feet. Mei dropped to one knee and revealed a diamond trilogy ring from Wongs.
"It was perfect and I couldn’t imagine it any other way."
The Ring
Lisa always dreamed of a trilogy ring like her grandmother’s. Mei had listened closely. He worked with the Wongs team to choose a timeless design, knowing Lisa rarely wears gold. The trilogy design symbolises their past, present and future, and when Lisa saw it for the first time, she felt as though the ring was designed just for her hand.
"It’s the exact sort of ring I would have chosen for myself, absolutely beautiful and looks like it was made for my hand."
The Wongs Experience
After the engagement, the couple came to Wongs to check the ring size and collect their Bridal Box. They were welcomed with Polaroids, advice and excitement. When they later returned to choose their wedding bands, the service felt just as personal. They selected matching platinum bands with engraving inside, making them truly theirs.
Lisa has already brought her ring in for complimentary lifetime cleaning, proudly showing it off as it sparkled like new each time.
"Everything was perfect and so easy to arrange. We came back for resizing, came back for our wedding bands and I’ve already used the free cleans."
The Wedding & Honeymoon
This August, surrounded by family, friends and an excited Labrador, Lisa and Mei said their vows in their local chapel. Their reception took place at the Bodnant Welsh Food Centre, a warm and welcoming venue overlooking acres of countryside. Bob remained the star of the show, greeting every guest like a professional ring bearer.
After the celebrations, they swapped the mountains and lakes of North Wales for the mountains and lakes of Alaska and Canada. They explored glaciers, lakes and wildlife. In many ways, it mirrored their engagement walk: quiet moments, incredible views and the feeling that the world had paused just for them.
Words of Wisdom
Lisa and Mei shared advice for anyone planning a proposal or wedding:
"You should do it the way you want to, and the way that makes you happy, be that on a beach in Dubai or in your own living room."
And for those planning their big day:
"As long as you book your suppliers early, everything else will fall into place."
