Ninas Ethereal Pear-Shaped Engagement Ring - A Bespoke Story

At Wongs Jewellers, we love helping couples create engagement rings that are every bit as unique as their love story. For Nina and her fiancé Jim, the journey began with a deeply personal proposal - and ended with a breathtaking bespoke design that perfectly reflects Nina’s style and personality.

When Jim proposed, he presented Nina with an Irish Claddagh ring - a meaningful piece he had given her years earlier - so that she could choose and design her own engagement ring. This thoughtful gesture blended his heritage into their engagement while ensuring the final ring would be exactly what she dreamed of.

Nina knew she wanted a pear-shaped diamond from the start, but the rest of the design only came together after plenty of research and inspiration hunting. Given the distinctive style she envisioned, having it made as a bespoke piece was the only option.

“My partner proposed with an Irish Claddagh ring that he gave me as a gift years ago so that I could choose my own engagement ring. This was special because it added part of his culture into the engagement and ensured that the actual engagement ring would be perfect for me.”

Why Wongs?

For Nina, choosing Wongs was easy. Her family has trusted us for years - her nan being a regular customer - and we had already created another sentimental piece for her by transforming her great-grandmother’s wedding ring into a nose ring she wears regularly.

“My family have gone to Wongs for years, with my nan being a frequent customer. Wongs also did such an incredible job at taking my great grandmother’s wedding ring and turning it into a nose ring for me… Wongs naturally seemed like the perfect fit.”

The Sentimental Story

The final engagement ring is a stunning pear-shaped diamond set on a delicate band that twists slightly and is adorned with mini diamonds. This detail, which Nina hadn’t originally requested, became one of her favourite elements - a personal symbol of life’s twists and turns and the sparkle you carry through them.

“My own interpretation of that is that you can go through so many twists and turns in life but regardless you’ll never lose your sparkle.”

The Design Journey

Nina worked with Tracey from our team, who brought infectious excitement and dedication to the project. She kept Nina fully involved throughout, making sure she felt confident to ask questions or request changes at any stage. A special highlight was being invited into our workshop to see the ring-making process in action - an experience Nina hadn’t expected but will never forget. Above is one of the initial designs we produced of Nina's ring.

“I absolutely loved and was surprised with how dedicated and full of joy Tracey was to work with… Another thing that surprised me was getting to see how the rings get made in the workshop. It was fascinating and such a special little add on that I never expected.”

The Big Reveal

When Nina finally saw the finished ring, it exceeded all expectations. Jim adores it too, joking that the diamond looks like an owl, while friends and family say it’s “so her” - ethereal and unique, just like she is. Knowing it’s a ring that will be passed down through generations makes it even more precious.

“I was in awe when I saw it. Everyone that has seen it says it is ‘so me’ and very ethereal… I hope they’re proud to know that they created a ring that will be passed down through the generations.”
